A: Ms Layla: I have to admit I’ve never counted! A: Ms Layla: I first became interested in energy work about 10 years ago when I met a Reiki Master in New York. She is a fascinating person but what most attracted me to her was her contented peaceful attitude. I soon started spending time with her and became a Level 1 Reiki practitioner mostly for my own benefit. I found through my love of animals that they are the perfect recipients for the energy so I began working with my friend’s pets. Wanting to learn much more about this amazing energy I studied and became a Level 2 and then eventually a Reiki Master. I still work primarily with animals, their energy is so pure and they are so grateful when they do receive it. I am profoundly grateful every day that I am able to pass along this gift to people and pets and help them even a little.
I’ve always been interested in Tantric yoga. As studied to become a yoga teacher I realized the breath work of traditional yoga left me feeling energized and strengthened. When I started learning about Tantric yoga it was a natural fit for me. I love to teach people about the principles of Tantric energy work and give them the tools to realize the power within themselves. Q: Ms Claire: What was (or still is) your favorite cartoon?
A: Ms Layla: I love Rocky & Bullwinkle! I discovered it in my 20s and to this day I love it!
Q: Ms Claire: Along that same train of thought, if you could have one Super Hero quality, what would it be?
A: Ms Layla: I’d like to be really really strong! You know, lift cars, move trees…. I never feel better than after a great weight session at the gym and my body feels powerful.
Q: Ms Claire: Outside of your energy/breath activities, what is something you do to unwind?
A: Ms Layla: I’m an avid bike rider and will get on my bike and ride 50 to 70 miles in a weekend. There’s something about the way you move, the wind in your face and the scenery speeding by that really gets me into the zone. During the winter I bring my bike inside and frequently ride when I’m watching TV, its a great way to get your exercise!
Q: Ms Claire: Let’s pretend you are going to be on an island for a month, with no forms of communication with the outside world. You can take one book with you. What book would it be?
A: Ms Layla: My favorite author is Ayn Rand. I would bring The Fountainhead, that’s a book I never ever tire of reading. I love her writing style, the way she makes the characters so real and rich. I love all her books but I make sure I read that one at least once a year.
